A lively bit of color from an unexpected place: this painting of a female red-winged parrot on a blue branch was made by a student at M Street High School, who signed it "Buckner" at lower right. Rust, purple, and teal surround the bird, and the thick, layered paint gives the surface real texture. This reproduction print from the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum is a cheerful fit for a kitchen, mudroom, or gallery wall.
