This Italian drawing from about 1570–1600 is a symmetrical grotesque design: a candelabrum framed by a winged female figure with a fruit bowl on her head, spiraling branches holding rabbits, bead festoons carried by geese standing on oxen, and rampant lions at the base. This reproduction print from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum preserves all of that fanciful detail, and the walnut frame gives it a classic, collected finish. A conversation piece for a library, hallway, or gallery wall.
